The history of Bunge in China dates back to the 1920s when the Bunge trade company was established in Shanghai Bund. In 1998, Bunge established itself in China as a trading operation of agricultural products for Chinese customers. The year 2000 marked the founding of Bunge International Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., providing soybeans to the Chinese market and assisting Chinese farmers and enterprises to export corn and wheat. In 2005, Bunge entered the soybean crushing and protein feed sectors to better serve Chinese farmers and enterprises engaged in livestock production and meet the demands of Chinese consumers for edible oil. Currently, Bunge has three soybean-processing plants in operation: Bunge (Nanjing) Grains & Oils Co., Ltd., Bunge Sanwei Oil & Fat Co., Ltd., and Bunge Chia Tai (Tianjin) Grains & Oil Co., Ltd. In 2009, Bunge (Shanghai) Management Co., Ltd. was established to further expand the business in China. Since the entry into the Chinese market, Bunge has been combining Bunge's global expertise with China’s local business models to contribute to the sustainable development, social development and benefits of the local people.
